Science
Through the New Park Science Curriculum, children will develop a sense of curiosity about the universe and the world around them. Throughout the programme of study, the children will acquire and develop the key knowledge that has been identified within each unit, as well as the application of scientific skills. Enquiry is key to science teaching, where taught content is explored through investigation and research including all five types of scientific enquiry. Children are introduced to experts with specific knowledge and passion about different areas of science to delve deeper into the big questions and create a sense of wonder. Stimulating, challenging and hands-on experiences will be further developed through school trips specifically linked to an area of learning.
The Science curriculum consists of three main areas: Working Scientifically, Biology and Physics. Each mixed Year group follows a 2-year rolling programme that covers each curriculum area.

- Children are encouraged to ask their own questions and are given opportunities to use their scientific skills and research to discover the answers.
- Teachers use precise questioning in class to test conceptual knowledge and skills and assess pupils regularly to identify those children with gaps in learning, so that all pupils achieve well.
- Working Scientifically skills are embedded into science blocks to ensure these skills are being developed throughout the children’s time at school.
