Learning to read is the single most important thing we will teach children at primary school.

Reading and stories are at the centre of everything we do at New Park – that’s why our school logo is a book! We believe that the more opportunities children have to read and listen to stories, the more they will enjoy reading and the quicker they will master the basics of this vital skill. As parents and carers, you play a vital role in supporting your child’s reading development.

At New Park we use a systematic synthetic phonics programme called Little Wandle to teach children to recognise letters and their associated sounds. Children will be taught new sounds each week and have access to online ebooks to practise applying their reading skills at home.g School
