Learning Challenge Curriculum
Years 1 and 2 (Key Stage 1) and Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 (Key Stage 2)
The basic classroom curriculum for all schools is comprised of two main elements: The National Curriculum and Religious Education (agreed locally). We plan our curriculum to ensure it has sufficient breadth, balance and relevance for each child where the work is differentiated to each child’s own abilities. We have chosen to use the Learning Challenge Curriculum (produced by Focus Education) as our approach to curriculum planning.
The Learning Challenge Curriculum approach is based on securing greater learner involvement in their work. It requires deep thinking and encourages learners to work using a question as the starting point. In designing the curriculum, teachers and learners are using a prime learning challenge, expressed as a question, as the starting point. Each subsidiary learning challenge is also expressed as a question. This approach allows for enquiry based learning which promotes curiosity, embeds the application of basic skills across the curriculum, and allows writing to be meaningfully embedded.
